What is fatigue?

Fatigue differs from tiredness. Tiredness is the result of daily exertion on a level you personally recognise. If you go to bed late and get up early do a full days work then you are likely to be tired in the evening, this is acceptable and with a good nights sleep you will awaken feeling better and more energized.

 

Fatigue is a chronic loss of energy, where even after a good night of sleep you still feel tired, and by doing just the most regular of things during the day you feel exhausted and energy-less.


Chronic fatigue syndrome is characterised by symptoms of

o       Severe, disabling fatigue,and exhaustion

o       Musculoskeletal pains

o       Headaches

o       Sleep disturbance

o       Brain fog, impaired concentration and short term memory

o       Tiredness

o       Irritability, anxiety, panic attacks

o       Depression resulting from the debilitating effects of the condition.

o       Sore throat and flu like symptoms

o       Lymph node tenderness

o       Increased sensitivity and allergies

o       Gastro intestinal problems

o       Menstrual problems

Other symptoms can include Dizziness, Cold hands and feet, shortness of breath, tingling, chest pains; rashes, tinnitus, fainting, muscle twitch and seizures.

 

The aims of acupuncture treatment are to reduce levels of fatigue and associated symptoms and improve quality of life.
