This may be specific to certain kinds of situations or events such as public speaking or certain kinds of social gathering or it can be a more generalized anxiety associated with a more intense and chronic fear of potentially being embarrassed or humiliated by their own actions or judged by others. The trigger for this kind of fear of social interaction may be acknowledged by the person as excessive or unreasonable however they meet considerable difficulty in overcoming it.
